Privacy Policy
How Praktum collects, uses, and protects your information.
Last updated: October 1, 2026
1. Who we are
Praktum ("Praktum," "we," "us") provides an AI-powered school management and student success platform for vocational, trade, and CDL schools. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through praktum.com, our applications (including app.praktum.com and cdlpermit.praktum.com), and related services.
2. Two roles: controller and processor
For information you give us directly — such as when you request a demo, contact us, or subscribe to our newsletter — Praktum acts as the data controller.
For student and staff records our customers upload or create in the platform, Praktum acts as a service provider (processor) on behalf of the school. The school controls that data and its own privacy notice governs it. We process it only to provide the services and as instructed in our customer agreement.
3. Information we collect
- Contact details you submit: name, email, phone number, school name, role, and message content.
- Account information for platform users: name, email, role, and login credentials.
- Customer data processed for schools: enrollment, attendance, training progress, assessments, payment status, and communications.
- Usage and device data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring URL, and campaign (UTM) parameters.
- Cookies and similar technologies, as described in our Cookie Policy.
4. How we use information
- To provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Praktum platform.
- To respond to inquiries, schedule demos, and provide customer support.
- To send newsletters and product updates you have requested (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- To generate risk insights, reports, and compliance submissions on behalf of our school customers.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
5. Student records and FERPA
When we process education records on behalf of a school, we act as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA. We do not sell student data, use it for targeted advertising, or build profiles for non-educational purposes. AI models are used to support student success for the school that owns the data.
6. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that host, secure, and operate our services under written confidentiality obligations.
- Government agencies when a school directs us to submit required reports (for example, the FMCSA Training Provider Registry or state approving agencies).
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- A successor entity in a merger or acquisition, subject to this policy.
7. Data security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, audit logging, and regular security reviews. See our Security page for details. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information.
8. Data retention
We retain marketing contact information until you ask us to delete it or it is no longer needed. Customer data is retained for the term of the customer agreement and deleted or returned afterward as the agreement specifies, except where law requires longer retention.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Students and parents should direct requests about education records to their school. To exercise your rights, email team@praktum.com. See our GDPR page for additional information for individuals in the EEA and UK.
10. Children
Praktum's services are intended for adult learners and school staff. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date and, where changes are material, notify customers directly.
